Alec Monopoly

Art has evolved as much as humanity has in the past centuries, and something that was once as controversial as street art is now defined as the epitome of contemporary art. Street artists’ works are now high in demand, and Alec Monopoly is a pseudonym we can’t stop hearing.

The American street artist is known for using his work to destabilize and overthrow society’s current capitalist hierarchies in the most innovative ways possible. His unconventional graffiti paintings are vivid and colorful, which separates his art from the aspects of crime and vandalism to which graffiti is often associated.

His Monopoly Man collection is a fan favorite, whose paintings depict the Monopoly game mascot in the most satirized and subverted scenarios. Since 2012, Alec’s artwork has been exhibited in the most renowned art galleries in the United States, including Guy Hepner galleries in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. His work has also been displayed in important art events like the Armory Fair, Frieze Art Fair and Art Basel Miami Beach.

Satirical Monopoly Man painting

In the Monopoly Man collection, the mascot, whom Alec believes is an American icon, is often shown carrying Pennybags, standing at the doors of Wall Street, and showing off his huge sums of money with a broad smile. Alec’s aim is to mock the current capitalist system through satire, saying that “the idea behind the exhibit is to bring the game of Monopoly to life”.

As his name has grown in the artistic realm, so have the repercussions of his art, which is why acquiring an Alec Monopoly painting or sculpture is not as easy as it seems, and can only be done by contacting the galleries who’ve acquired these remarkable artworks. So, hurry up and add some artistic fun to your personal art collection, for you never know when the next chance will come.
